Soft
Solutions is pleased to announce that its Retail Merchandising Suite supports
"Oracle Real Application Clusters 10g" ("RAC"), the database clustering system
provided by Oracle.
RAC is the clustering technology allowing high
availability of the systems, linear scalability and performance improvement
through load balancing. |
|
The test case has been conducted on a 2-node 4 CPU cluster, with
Linux Red Hat 4. The shared storage was configured with Automatic Storage
Management (ASM), the oracle technology within 10g used to partition database
data files on disks for availability and backup purposes. The two database
servers were linked two 2-Gbits links, one used by RAC to keep the two database
instances synchronized and the other one used by the database client, the
J2EE application server hosting Soft Solutions' application in our case. |

| Stakes of a Single Referential (Master-File)
|
|
| The
quality of retailers' operational execution is tightly linked to the quality of
the information exchanged within the organization as well as with suppliers and
to the speed of dissemination of this information. |
|
| The lack
of reliability of retailer data generates losses due to stock-outs, labeling or
cash register errors, etc. Studies have shown that 30% of data found in
merchandise databanks is erroneous, that each item requires some 25 minutes of
data cleansing time per year, and that 60 % of invoices issued contain errors
as well (source: AT Kearney).. |
|
| A single
solution for item information management - synchronized with standard
electronic catalogs, or with suppliers, and integrating business processes - is
sure to allow: |
|
| - |
|
Significantly
reducing these losses |
| - |
|
Improving the
business's reactivity in launching new products |
| - |
|
Optimizing
product data maintenance costs |
| - |
|
Reducing
litigation with suppliers |
|
|
| Single
database integrating business processes for an optimized internal
collaboration |
The
complexity of information systems necessitates an internal master-file data
alignment solution. In order to maintain the quality of this data over time, it
is essential to integrate external alignment capabilities through the use of
technologies of synchronization with outside partners.
Challenge for
all retailers Improve collaboration with trade partners, optimize
quality of product data, and properly structure internal information management
processes; a PIM solution offers a single, unified view of the information by
integrating the management of the product's life-cycle: |
|
| - |
|
Searching for
and requesting subscription to e-catalogs and data exchange networks |
| - |
|
Selecting
products et controlling data quality |
| - |

The Global Data Synchronization Network(GDSN) |
|
|
| Brussels,
Belguim,October 25, 2005 - GS1 GDSN, Inc. announced today that twenty-six Data
Pools and the GS1 Global Registry successfully passed the Global Data
Synchronisation Network (GDSN) Interoperability Certification test. |
|
The GDSN,
supported by GS1, leading companies and industry groups worldwide is a global,
Internet-based initiative that enables retailer and Consumer Packaged Goods
(CPG) manufacturer trading partners to quickly and efficiently exchange supply
chain data that is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with the universally
supported GS1 System of standards. By synchronising data in the GDSN, companies
quickly realise benefits such as reduced shipping errors, lower transportation
costs, faster speed to market for new products, and fewer out-of-stocks.
The GDSN Interoperability Certification event began 27 June 2005, and
was conducted by Drummond Group Inc. (DGI), a leading interoperability and
conformance testing company. For a data pool to be successful in the
certification process, the company had to demonstrate full interoperability
with all other participating data pools and the GS1 Global Registry V 2.0 using
DGI's Interoperability Compliance Process®, a robust interoperability
methodology. Data pools were measured against a set of development standards
established by GDSN, as well as test plans and criteria defined by DGI. DGI
administered the testing in a neutral, cooperative and non-competitive
environment and maintained strict vendor neutrality to assure integrity of the
testing process. "We are pleased to see that the number of certified data pools
has increased by almost three times from the 2004 certification event. Sixteen
of the twenty-six data pools are GS1 country Member Organisations, a clear sign
of the global market need for GDSN compliant data synchronisation", said Miguel
Angel Lopera, CEO of GS1. "This represents significant progress in the last 10
months." Soft Solutions has successfully completed the 2005 GDSN
Interoperability Certification test . |

Managing purchase centers and supplier profitability |
|
|
| The structure
and the volume of the gross margin (17% to 25%) are managed well ahead of the
selling process. Up to 80% of the cost structure depends on the products'
purchase value. A 1% profit on the conditions would generate with certain
retailers up to 30% additional net profit. KSA's and Soft Solutions' "Gross
Margin" acceleration programs are in a position to ensure significant
profits: |
|
| - |
|
Optimization of the
negotiation process |
| - |
|
Innovation in and
automation of the processes of trade management |
| - |
|
Improvement of
supplier profitability |
|
|
| Buy
better in order to sell better |
| In the current
context of the wearing down of the consumers' buying power, and the margins
contraction subsequent to the price wars, retailers must reconsider the options
for managing their purchase centers. Knowing how to sell is primarily about how
to buy; best conditions on different product segments, optimizing the
profitability of the supplier portfolio. |
| Soft Solutions
Suite - and mainly ibs Deals & ibs
Assortment - contribute to achieving the following
objectives: |
|
| - |
|
Constructing product
offer and selecting products that best meet consumer needs. |
| - |
|
Managing negotiation
with suppliers in order to secure margin points. |
| - |
|
Managing supplier
ontracts and invoices, with real-time treasury follow-up in order to ensure the
recovery of negotiated amounts. |

exhibited for the first time at Marketechnics , the Food Marketing Institute's
annual information technology tradeshow, which took place from Feb 29th to Mar
2nd at the Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, California. The visits and
feedback from retailers confirmed the success of and the growing interest in
Soft Solutions and its product offerings. |
|
Building on its
track record of success in serving the merchandising and marketing needs of
major retailers around the world, Soft Solutions has already signed its first
major North American client. Los Angeles-based Smart & Final, a warehouse
grocery chain with 230 locations, will go live with Soft Solutions ibs
Pricing and ibs Promotions during the second
quarter (of 2004?).
Through past work with some of the world's largest
retailers, led by Carrefour, Soft Solutions has developed the industry's first
comprehensive web-based merchandising suite. The product suite incorporates the
best practices of global retailers, which will enable North American retailers
to develop and execute merchandising strategies at all levels, thus increasing
speed of adoption, execution and supplier collaboration.

17. 01. 2005 -
New York, NY, January 17, 2005 ARTS has released |
|
|
| New York, NY,
January 17, 2005 - The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) has
released new IXRetail XML schemas to enable retailers to use common methods and
maintain consistent and accurate data for all systems that create, manage or
consume item and price data within the retail enterprise. The new Item
Maintenance schema, the 10th standard XML schema developed by ARTS, is intended
to communicate Item data from a central repository to stores ensuring
synchronization of item data, a significant challenge for all retailers. |
|
|
| "ARTS
IXRetail was founded to develop XML schemas to integrate applications within
the retail enterprise," said Richard Mader Executive Director of ARTS. "When
retailers and their software vendors asked ARTS to develop an Item and revised
Price schema to complement POSlog, we proceeded carefully to avoid conflict or
duplication with other standard groups working in the business to business
space." |
|
|
ARTS and the
Uniform Code Council, Inc. (UCC) have worked together to ensure the Item schema
incorporates the EAN. UCC's basic identification numbers, the GTIN Global
Trade Item Number and the GLN Global Location Number. Use of the GTIN and GLN
enables the retailer's internal systems to communicate effectively with their
trading partners. |
|
|
"Through our
cooperation a retailer can use the ARTS Item schema for internal operations and
generate records which can be used for data synchronization," said Al Garton of
the UCC. "This is a practical example of how standards groups can work together
to enable a single implementation to serve multiple functions." |
|
| The Item
Maintenance schema can be used to create, update, or delete item information
held within store systems such as Point of Sale, Inventory Management, Layaway
Management, or Returns Processing. |
|
| Version 2
of the Price schema complements the Item Maintenance schema by adding the
downloading of prices and price rules to version 1 that was limited to Price
Lookup capabilities. Price v2 supports special and promotional pricing based on
basket, customer, time, location and other retailer established criteria. |
|
|
Development of the Item schema was lead by Tim Hood, VP of Solution
Architecture for Triversity. "Our work team took on a tremendous challenge.
Item information is at the very heart of most retail systems and a great deal
of research was required to ensure the schema contained all necessary data," he
said. "Working with the UCC was of tremendous assistance." |
|
| Work team
members included representatives from IBM, Datavantage, PCATS, Microsoft,
Target and the IXRetail team in Japan. Ron McEvoy, COO of Soft Solutions, a
retail software company based in France and certified by EAN.fr, made a special
effort to ensure that the ARTS Item schema included the data necessary to
support European customers. |
|
| Price
version 2 was developed under the leadership of Dean Sleeper, CEO of AccessVia
with the able a ssistance of Dave VanHorn of SofTechnics and representatives
from El Corte Ingles, Blockbuster, Retek, Soft Solutions, Datavantage and
Clicks and Mortar Consulting. Price v2 can serve as the distribution vehicle
for Price Lookup data, a significant enhancement over v1. |
|
The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) Is

technology through standards. Since 1993, ARTS has been delivering application
standards exclusively to the retail industry. ARTS has three standards: The
Standard Relational Data Model, UnifiedPOS and IXRetail. Membership is open to
all members of the international technology community- retailers from all
industry segments, application developers and hardware companies.

15.06.2004 -June
3rd, 2003 European Retail Solutions Awards ceremony |
|
|
| Some news from
the June 3rd, 2003 European Retail Solutions Awards ceremony that took place at
the opening evening of the Retail Solutions show at the Hilton Metropole Hotel,
NEC, Birmingham in the UK. Some news, indeed! |
|
The
Retailer/Supplier-Partnership-of-the-Year award went to Groupe Louis Delhaize
(GLD) and Soft Solutions on their Purchasing project.
This award
is presented to the retailer and supplier who have developed a successful
partnership that has generated significant business benefits. Not
unlike other ventures of its nature, the GLD purchasing project was a major
challenge in many respects, on top of which it had its own set of specific
problems that further intensified the challenge.
Facing that, GLD and
Soft Solutions teams were in tune with each other over months, during which
time the two teams succeeded in surmounting all obstacles (project-relevant
ones as well as wayward ones) and constructing a model solution in a tribute,
so to speak, to intelligence, performance and synergy.
This achievement
was, in a way, a test for the mutual trust and support of the two teams, and an
honor that was earned with dedication, commitment and intelligence. For our
part, we at Soft Solutions always strive to sustain the level of excellence our
clients have come to expect of us and which has been making the pride of our
company.
We will continue to do so and the only award we aim for is our
clients satisfaction. So far, we have had plenty of that.
We
hope, in a sense, to be able to put our systems where our mouth is
and provide you with tangible proof that the success story from the Retail
Awards is not one of a kind and that it may be easily emulated in your
case.
Sincerely CEO Soft Solutions |
